Domestic Performance

Design II

ARCH 102

Professor Michele Gorman

This studio took design principles from design 102 and applied them to a site on Pratt Institute's campus. We studied the constraints of the body and created character occupants.

Inspired by the works of Adrienne Rich, the project is a playful performance of non-traditional domestic life. Mother and child have two paths that vary through the scale of the body, converging at critical moments through time. The performance at times is the tension of freedom and security that mother and child feel towards one another during different acts of growing up.
